Workshops: Saxons & Vikings

In our Raiders workshops we look at Viking or Saxon culture similarities and differences, beliefs, Gods, warfare, exploration and more

Session 1 – Infamous Invaders

Part 1: In this session, half of the class uses our amazing classroom-sized Longship to prepare for a sea voyage, navigate the ocean and conduct a raid on either Post Roman London or Lindisfarne Abbey.

Part 2: The other half of the class re-enact the tranquil day-today activities of an Anglo-Saxon Monastery, unaware of the peril arriving  from the ocean!

Session 2 – Fame & Feasting

Celebrating the success of the raid, we prepare for and carry out a Viking or Saxon Feast, examining the levels of society as
well as the important part played by sagas and storytelling.

Session 3 – Burials and the Beyond

By enacting Viking or Saxon burials in the classroom, we discover the similarities and differences in their customs, religion and beliefs about the afterlife.

Session 4 – Barbaric Battles:

One of our most engaging sessions, these follow a structured format of training for war, setting the scene and enacting out the key points of Historic Battles. Choose from Brunenburgh, Edington or Stamford Bridge
