Workshops: The Industrial Revolution

This period of great technological advancement is brought to life with our signature engineering and building sessions and our fantastically entertaining ‘On Trial’ session where we decide whether the Industrial Revolution was the best thing for history or not.

Session 1 – Advanced Agriculture

Students get very hands-on in this session as we examine key aspects of the agricultural revolution including crop
rotation, machinery, canal transport and steam power.

Session 2– ’Black Gold’

Students get very hands-on in this round robin session all about coal – the fuel of the Industrial Revolution as we look at it’s formation, uses, mining and more.

Session 3 – Industry Invades

This round robin sees children taking part in some of the major advancements in the industrial revolution from casting iron to bridge building and track laying and much more.

Session 4 – The Great Railway Roll-out

One of the defining advancements of the Victorian era, this session sees students explore the evolution of the steam engine and the impact of the Railways on Britain.

Session 5 – ’On Trial’

Students debate the pros and cons of the Industrial Revolution in our very own courtroom complete with Judge, barristers, bailiffs and more.
